Sweet Potato & Hazelnut Chocolate Mousse (VG, GF)

Can you think of a better way to end the week than indulging in a cup of this sweet potato & hazelnut chocolate mousse?

Free of refined sugar, gluten and dairy, it makes a perfect dessert for anyone following a whole food plant-based diet. Not only is it nutritious and takes literally no time to prepare, but it also tastes better than any store bought chocolate mousse.

YIELD: makes 4 servings


  • 2 cups of mashed baked sweet potatoes (around 1.5 big sweet potatoes)

  • 1/2 cup of raw hazelnuts

  • 8 pitted Medjool dates

  • 2 tbsp of maple syrup

  • 4 heaped tbsp of cacao powder

  • 2 pinches of salt

  • 240ml of cashew milk or any other plant milk

  • For garnish (optional): chopped hazelnuts, cacao nibs, hemp seeds and lavender flowers


  1. Start by baking the sweet potatoes with the skin at 200‎°C/400‎°F for 30-40 minutes or until tender. Once they're ready, scoop them out of the skin and mash them a bit with a fork. Once cooled down, continue to step 2.

  2. Blend 2 cups of the mashed sweet potatoes with the rest of the ingredients using a high speed blender or food processor into a mousse like consistency. It's ok if it's not perfectly smooth, it's still perfectly tasty!

  3. Serve the mousse into four cups/glasses of your choice and let it cool in the fridge for 30-60 minutes.

  4. Sprinkle some garnish on top and enjoy!
