Raw Superfood Energy Balls



It is early afternoon and you are craving a sweet treat? Surely it happens to all of us. In this blog post I am giving you an easy and healthy solution that only takes 5 minutes to prepare. It is no surprise to me that there are hundreds of recipes online for energy balls, bites or snacks, call them whatever you like. They are nutritious, sweet and give you just enough energy to get through the rest of your day, without making you sleepy and tired. I find them a perfect snack before training and easy to take with you pretty much everywhere.


Today we are making my variation of this so popular snack. We are using natural sources of sweetness and no processed oils. To make them even healthier, I added some great sources of antioxidants such as cacao nibs, aronia and green powder. The green powder is a mixture of matcha, barley grass, wheat grass, lemon grass and lemon myrtle. Antioxidants are compounds that inhibit oxidation, a chemical reaction of producing free radicals. The latter, as you may already know, has the capacity of damaging different cells in our body. The green powder I am using is also a great source of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a substance containing magnesium in its molecule, which makes it really good for relieving constipation and cleansing the bowels. And last but not least, to increase the omega-3 fatty acids content for their anti-inflammatory properties, I added some hemp seeds. So open the pantry and let's get started!



RAW SUPERFOOD ENERGY BALLS

VEGAN, GLUTEN-FREE, NO ADDED SUGAR, NO PROCESSED OILS

YIELD: makes around 15 balls

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup gluten-free oats

  • 2 tbsp cacao nibs

  • 2 tbsp hemp seeds

  • 1 tbsp almond butter

  • 4 pitted Medjool dates

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

  • Raw ground vanilla beans

  • 1 banana

  • 1/2 tsp aronia powder

  • 1 tsp green powder (mixture of matcha, barley grass, wheat grass, lemon grass and lemon myrtle)


DIRECTIONS:

  1. Blend all of the ingredients in a food processor.

  2. Form balls with your hands.

  3. Place the balls in the fridge to cool down for at least an hour.

  4. Voilà! Enjoy!
